Spring Cleanup Services in Anne Arundel County, MD
Serving Pasadena, Annapolis, Severna Park, Arnold & Surrounding Communities
Seasonal landscape cleanups designed to restore your garden and prepare it for the growing season.
After winter, many landscapes need a little attention before the growing season begins. Leaves, debris, and last year’s plant growth can build up in garden beds and lawn areas, leaving the property looking tired.
At Himmel’s Landscape and Garden Center, our spring cleanup service focuses on restoring the landscape so plants can begin the new season healthy and ready to grow.
What is Included in a Spring Cleanup?
Spring cleanup services typically include a combination of tasks designed to restore the landscape after winter.
Debris & Leaf Removal: Leaves, sticks, and winter debris are cleared from lawn areas and planting beds so the landscape can start the season clean.
Perennial & Shrub Pruning: Perennials are cut back and shrubs are pruned according to seasonally appropriate timing so plants remain healthy and continue growing properly.
Weed Removal: Existing weeds are removed from landscape beds before they begin spreading during the growing season.
Mulch Removal & Refresh: Old or compacted mulch can be removed and replaced with fresh mulch to help retain moisture and improve the appearance of garden beds.
Bed Edging: Landscape bed edges can be redefined to create clean transitions between lawn and garden areas.
Fertilizer & Weed Control: Fertilizer and preventative weed control treatments may be applied to support healthy plant growth throughout the season.
Deer Repellent Applications: In areas where deer browsing is common, repellents such as Deer Scram can be applied along garden perimeters.
When Can You Schedule Our Spring Cleanup Services?
Our spring cleanup services are typically scheduled between March and early June. Performing a cleanup during this window helps prepare the landscape for the growing season by clearing away winter debris and refreshing garden beds before plants begin active growth.
This is also the ideal time to prune many shrubs and cut back perennials using seasonally appropriate techniques. By performing these tasks early in the season, plants can begin growing again under healthier conditions.
Fall cleanup services are also available between September and November to help prepare landscapes for the winter months.
We can handle overgrown or distressed landscape cleanups
Sometimes gardens simply need a fresh start. After a few seasons of heavy growth, weather damage, or missed maintenance, planting beds and lawn areas can become overgrown and difficult to manage.
In these situations, we approach the cleanup as a landscape restoration. Our goal is to preserve as many existing plants as possible while clearing away debris, weeds, and overgrowth so the garden can begin thriving again.
Rather than removing plants unnecessarily, we focus on working with what is already there whenever possible. Many gardens contain plants that have been growing for years or hold sentimental value, and restoring those spaces thoughtfully is an important part of our work.
Mulch or Decorative Stone Can Be Installed During Your Spring Cleanup
Spring is another ideal time to refresh the ground cover in landscape beds. After a cleanup, installing fresh mulch or decorative stone can help define the beds and prepare the garden for the growing season.
Many homeowners choose black mulch or mahogany mulch, which are double-shredded materials that gradually break down and improve soil health while protecting plant roots. In some situations, river rock or river cobble may also be used for decorative areas or locations where improved drainage is needed.
However, decorative stone is not always recommended in planting beds that receive full sun. Stone can absorb heat and raise soil temperatures around plants, which can sometimes stress roots or foliage. Because of this, we typically recommend mulch for most garden beds while reserving decorative rock for specific landscape areas.
An environmentally thoughtful approach to seasonal cleanup
Our cleanup work is guided by environmentally friendly and pollinator-conscious practices.
Rather than removing plants unnecessarily, we focus on preserving healthy plants and maintaining conditions that support beneficial insects and pollinators throughout the garden. Thoughtful pruning and plant care help the landscape remain both healthy and ecologically balanced.
