Fall Cleanup Services

Serving Pasadena, Annapolis, Severna Park, Arnold & Surrounding Communities

Seasonal landscape cleanup to prepare your garden and yard for the winter months.

As the growing season winds down, landscapes often accumulate leaves, plant debris, and overgrown foliage. Fall cleanup helps reset the garden before winter dormancy so plants can enter the colder months in healthy condition.

At Himmel’s Landscape and Garden Center, our fall cleanup services focus on restoring planting beds, pruning plants at the appropriate time of year, and preparing the landscape for the winter season.

What is Included in a Fall Cleanup?

Fall cleanup services typically include a combination of tasks designed to restore the landscape after the growing season.

Debris & Leaf Removal: Leaves, sticks, and seasonal debris are cleared from lawns and garden beds so plants are not smothered during the winter months.

Perennial & Shrub Pruning: Perennials may be cut back and shrubs lightly pruned when seasonally appropriate so plants remain healthy as they transition into dormancy.

Landscape Bed Cleanup: Garden beds are cleaned out by removing spent annuals, weeds, and dead plant material.

Mulch Refresh: Fresh mulch can be installed to help insulate plant roots and maintain a tidy appearance in garden beds.

Bed Edging: Landscape bed edges may be redefined to create a clean transition between lawn and planting areas.

Perimeter Protection: In areas where deer pressure is common, repellents such as Deer Scram can be applied along landscape edges.

Fall cleanups often include bed cleanup, pruning, debris removal, and mulch refreshment.

When Can You Schedule Our Fall Cleanup Services?

Fall cleanup services are typically scheduled between September and November, when plants begin transitioning into dormancy and leaves start accumulating in the landscape.

Scheduling a cleanup during this window helps ensure garden beds are prepared for winter and that plants are properly pruned before the colder months arrive.

Overgrown or Distressed Landscapes Can Benefit From a Fall Cleanup

Some properties simply need more attention after a full growing season. Plants may become overgrown, garden beds can fill with weeds, and fallen leaves or debris may begin to build up throughout the landscape.

In these cases, fall cleanup often becomes more of a landscape restoration. Our goal is to carefully clear away overgrowth and debris while preserving the plants that homeowners want to keep. Many gardens contain plants that have been growing for years, and maintaining those plants while restoring the space is an important part of our approach.

Mulch or Decorative Stone Can Be Installed During Your Fall Cleanup

After a fall cleanup, many homeowners choose to install fresh mulch to help protect their landscape through the winter months.

A fresh layer of mulch helps insulate plant roots and retain moisture in the soil as temperatures begin to drop. At Himmel’s Landscape and Garden Center, we typically install black mulch or mahogany mulch, both of which provide a dark, rich contrast that helps garden beds stand out.

Our mulch is double-shredded, which allows it to break down gradually and add organic matter back into the soil over time. We are also careful about proper mulch depth around plants. Too much mulch around the base of shrubs or trees can contribute to fungal issues or pests, so we apply mulch carefully by hand and clean around plant stems and trunks before finishing the bed.

Proper mulch depth is important for plant health, which is why we carefully apply mulch by hand and clear it away from the base of plants.

An Environmentally Thoughtful Approach to Fall Cleanup

Our cleanup work is guided by environmentally responsible practices. While we remove debris from lawns and visible garden areas, we may encourage leaving some natural materials in designated areas where pollinators and beneficial insects can overwinter.

By approaching seasonal cleanup thoughtfully, landscapes remain both tidy and supportive of the surrounding ecosystem.
